Mata Ashita with Megan Kiyoko Wray
Join us for our first event of 2026! We are excited to be in conversation with Megan Kiyoko Wray, Mata Ashita organizer and author of Little Temple on the Prairie (2025), a history of the Manitoba Buddhist Temple. Wray will share a reading of her work and participate in a facilitated Q&A. A short break and participatory writing activity with an opportunity to share will follow the discussion.

Drop-in writing sessions
In 2026, Mata Ashita launched an inaugural series of drop-in writing sessions for writers in the Japanese Canadian and Nikkei community. Writers are invited to come and go as they please — a space to co-work and discuss current projects. Quarterly, the group holds peer feedback sessions where writers are paired up to give each other hands-on feedback on works in progress.
